Other than volunteers, our most prized possession is The Playhouse.
The Playhouse
Cabaret Seating
The Lancaster Playhouse provides “cabaret” seating for the three productions each year. This casual seating arrangement enables serving complimentary cheese, fruit & crackers’ plates “family style” at each of the sixteen tables. Indeed, the social hour begins an hour before curtain and features a cash bar; most guests enjoy this time visiting with friends or meeting others who might be sharing their table.
For children’s productions, the tables are removed and seating expands to 125 chairs set theater style.
Originally a fire station, this intimate little theater has been undergoing renovations and upgrades since late 2007 under the direction of and including much labor from Ben Estes. During the past year, a new sound system was installed and the air conditioners and roof were replaced. These continuing investments in The Playhouse are possible because of the generous donations of money, time and materials from many friends of community theater.
The Lancaster Playhouse has a Large Area Listening System that enables hearing-impaired customers to be connected directly to the stage microphones. Guests who have a hearing instrument with Telecoil (T-Coil) capability can set their hearing aid on the “T” setting and wear a neckloop that is plugged into a receiver. Those who would enjoy enhanced hearing with or without a hearing instrument will use the FM receiver with an earphone.
