About us
The Lancaster Players is a volunteer non-profit organization dedicated to providing theater for the community while creating opportunities for adults and children to learn all aspects of theater. We are committed to making theater that celebrates the human spirit and that reflects the diverse and unique experiences, perspectives, and viewpoints of our community.
The key to our success is the volunteer force, people just like you who donate their time and varied talents to The Lancaster Players – on stage, backstage, serving guests and prior to the curtain going up.
Each year, our volunteers become members of The Lancaster Players, Inc. and are invited to the Annual Meeting of the corporation. The Annual Meeting during the 4th quarter includes election of board members, approval of any bylaws changes and a Volunteer Appreciation Party.
You are invited to join us in this adventure that is Community Theatre. Visit Back Stage to explore opportunities to join in the fun and become a member of The Lancaster Players, Inc.
Our History
The theater’s origin dates from 1970 when a group of mothers sought to create something to fill their children’s time outside of school. Though successful, children’s plays and puppet shows quickly gave way to plays and musicals for the entire family.
As a community theater, the small and enthusiastic band of thespians began staging productions for equally enthusiastic Northern Neck friends and neighbors using various facilities in the area. In its second decade of existence, the Lancaster Players found its very own home, a former fire station in White Stone that was transformed into a small and intimate playhouse.
